Gun Control and Connecticut #2

The events that occurred last Friday, in the town of Newtown Connecticut rocked our country to its core. Twenty little girls and boys and six educators were shot. Twenty girls and boys with parents and brothers and sisters. Twenty children who may not have cured cancer or solved world hunger but were never even given the chance to live normal lives. Six educators that had families who loved and cared for them. Needless to say, there is a change that needs to take place so that tragedies like this don't happen as often. As a person who has not lived in America her whole life, I don't understand the obsession that Americans have with these weapons of destruction. And now the NRA, who are proponents for guns,  has released a statement saying that to prevent more shootings like this we need armed guards at every school. The solution is not to fight fire with fire. That just results in more death and the last thing we need is more families being broken during the holidays.

  2. Hello. I completely agree with your position that our nation shouldn't "fight fire with fire." Instead, I think the U.S. should just drop the ban hammer on the use of guns altogether in order to sharply decrease the amount of crimes. It's a shame that so many innocent little children passed away before the holidays due to a single man.

  3. I completely agree with your position. Of course, the Connecticut shooting was tragic, and I am happy that the government is doing something to enact a call for change. However, I do not believe the best way to spur change is to have more armed guards. With more armed guards, civilians are likely to attempt getting a hold of these weapons, and the result will only lead to more violence, and therefore, more deaths. My current event was about the same topic of gun control, and I believe that the best way to prevent more shootings is better health treatments, since all shootings that I am aware of that have occurred in the past twenty years have been from people with disorders/illnesses.
